Matt Blevins
It’s Personal!
Ex-Bull rider, accomplished
auctioneer finds himself in
an unbelievable situation.
Many of our days begin by
answering a frantic cry for
help. You know the type of call, from
somebody whose bad news is fresh
and the worry is raw. These are
desperate conversations that begin,
“I’ve found a lump in my breast! Where
can I get a mammogram as soon as
possible?”
Matt Blevins has been supporting
Careity’s efforts for many years.
Suddenly he was faced with his own
dilemma and looking for a place to turn.
As an accomplished auctioneer, he
has been relentless, as he conducts
his charity auctions, encouraging the
bidders to give, give, give. With his
sharp bid calling chant, he sometimes
doubles the donations by getting two
bidders to bid and win.
This ex-bull rider whose Texas blood
flows stronger than the Rio Grande,
was scared when he found a lump on
his breast. “I didn’t know who to call
or where to go for male mammogram.”
“Just the thought of Cancer! Trust
me, the thoughts that runs through
your mind asking yourself why me?
I didn’t know who to call or where to
go for male mammogram. I reached
out to the Careity Foundation because
I knew that they provide services for
cancer patients. I told Lyn Walsh and
Beverly Branch my situation, Lyn said
“We will call you back in ten minutes”.
Well, five minutes later they
called me and said. “We have
you an appointment on Monday
morning at 10:15 and we will be
there for you and Matt “YOU’RE
NOT” doing this by yourself”.
Although, I was mentally prepared
for the worst. After going through
the 3D image mammogram, the
Doctor came in to visit with us.
Yes us, Lyn and Beverly were
right there with me. He gave us
the GREATEST NEWS! He said
that it’s a benign lump known
as GYNECOMASTIA which is
common in males and it should
go away but, if it gets any bigger
come back. I now truly understand
what a woman goes through when
they find a lump in their breast.
The fear, the uncertainty and why!
I’m, so grateful for the Careity getting
me to the right place and being there
for me and so many others. Careity is
the “REAL DEAL” their mission is to
“SAVE LIVES”! and give people hope.
And I know many people with similar
stories about this organization, who are
extremely grateful and appreciative to
Careity, for this very reason. n
