Lindy Burch
Celebrity Cutting
Lindy Burch’s easy smile and long
blonde hair seem unlikely to strike
terror in the hearts of tough cowboys,
but it’s true.
Careity Celebrity Cutting’s color
commentator is a legendary rider
for whom even the most illustrious
professional competitors step aside.
Since 1980, when she won the
National Cutting Horse Association
Open Futurity with 225.5 points
and became the first woman to win
the prestigious event—in her third
showing in the NCHA Futurity—
Burch has been breaking and setting
records, almost to the point that there
aren’t any more for her to shoot for.
She won the reserve championship
in 1979, the first woman to claim that
title, and became one of only six open
riders to have earned back-to-back
open NCHA Futurity titles.
Burch scored 233 points aboard
Bet Yer Blue Boons in the 1998 NCHA
World Finals, shattering another
NCHA world record, and won the
2000 NCHA World Championship
and the 2001 NCHA World Finals. Her
record still stands as the only woman
in the history of the NCHA to win the
Open World Championship.
Burch was elected in 2000 the first
female president in the history of
the NCHA, and was inducted into the
NCHA Members Hall of Fame during
the Futurity in Fort Worth and at the
2005 Pacific Coast Cutting Horse
Association Futurity in Burbank, Calif.
She has been inducted into the
NCHA Riders Hall of Fame, the
National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and the
Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.
It’s a record of accomplishment
that top-name competitors in the 24th
Annual Careity Celebrity Cutting can
enjoy as well as appreciate, since they
don’t have to compete against her.
Careity Foundation is honored to
have someone of Burch’s prestige and
experience doing the
color commentary for
Celebrity Cutting. She
helps the audience
see the nuances
of the sport and
understand the skill
of both the horse
and the riders. Her
commentary adds
tremendously to
the fun of the event
and the audience’s
appreciation for the
winners. n
